Perpetual and Solvable Problems
March 27, 2018
In
class we discussed the difference between perpetual problems and solvable
problems. Perpetual problems usually are resulted from how a person was raised
or their way of thinking. They normally stem from a problem that has a deeper
root. Solvable problems on the other hand are more of a situational problem.
These are problems where a solution is achievable to fix this problem. An
example of a solvable problem in my relationship with my boyfriend is
television shows. My boyfriend does not have any television shows that he keeps
up with, other than Big Brother. So when it comes time to watch television at
his house, I normally get to watch what I want. These shows consist of The
Bachelor, Teen Mom, and Siesta Key. I also enjoy watching reruns of Secret Life
of the American Teenager & Gossip Girl. My boyfriend cannot stand these
shows. They are just way to girly for him. So, our solution is for me to watch
the tv shows in his bedroom while he tries to fall asleep. That way, we are “spending
time together”, I get to watch my tv shows, and he does not really have to put
up with watching them. Since this problem has a solution that is easily fixed,
this is a solvable problem. A perpetual problem we have is our music taste. Ever
since moving to Wisconsin for college, I love country music. That’s normally
what I have blasting in my car. My boyfriend on the other hand is not a fan of
it and prefers classic rock. So, whenever I am driving, he always turns off my
radio. I prefer that the music plays, but it’s not worth fighting over. This
problem really cannot be solved because we can’t truly change our music taste;
it is what it is.
